Objective:
To promote confidence and satisfaction between Merseyside Police and members of the Merseyside Police Firearms Forum and to enhance the cooperation between all parties thereby promoting public safety.
In order to achieve this:-
1. All parties to this agreement will behave in a polite, tolerant and respectful manner towards each other.2. Clubs will abide by the law, and endeavour to comply with the Home Office criteria for approval.
3. Clubs will inform Merseyside Police of any suspicious applicants for membership, or of any activity relating to the club which they feel may be of concern.
4. Clubs will encourage their members to apply for renewal of their certificates in good time.
5. If certificate holders are sold ammunition at a shooting club and fail to use all of the ammunition at the time, then the remainder should be entered on Table 2 of their certificate or left at the club.
6. Registered Firearms Dealers will comply with the law, and will notify the police of any suspicious activity which comes to their attention.
7. Registered Firearms Dealers will ensure their security remains to the standard of the Home Office Guidance.
8. Registered Firearms dealers will ask for appropriate identification (e.g. certificate, driving licence, passport) before the sale of any guns, component parts of ammunition or component parts of firearms to any person not known to them.
9. Air Gun Dealers will ask for proof of age when selling air guns or air gun ammunition to anyone whose age may be in doubt.
10. Merseyside Police will endeavour to renew all certificates before the expiry date of the certificate. However, where circumstances lead to an unavoidable delay a Section 7 Permit will be issued.
11. Merseyside Police will view all applications from the standpoint of public protection by minimising risk in order to protect the peace and safety of the public.
12. Merseyside Police will view all certificate applications from the standpoint of the applicant rather than that of a possible objector.
13. Merseyside Police will assist all applicants and they will continue to improve the service provided to the public to help create a safer Merseyside.
